Helping the needy
Do we really need to give money to people in streets?
Whenever I do, there is always a dilemma within me.
“Am I helping the genuine?”
“Am I being cheated?
“Has it reached the right hands?”
- on the other side,
“Is that really enough?”
There was a relative of mine Latha, akka, working in a Madurai collector office. She used to help a poor girl begging, aged around 7 years, who was seen near the office every day. Initially with money, then food and latter she bought new clothes for her. One day Latha akka asked the little girl whether she is ready to come with her. The girl would get a home and would go to school. There was a puzzled look in the girls face, just giggled and ran. Later the girl hid herself or will be going in different direction on seeing Latha akka.
What made the little girl to ran away from the warm hands? Is it her laziness?
A benevolent roommate of mine had the habit of give away everything, when someone asks. Her marriage got fixed and was vacating the accommodation. She gave most of her things; her dresses, kitchen item, bed etc., to the maid and the packers and movers were packing of electronic items. Then the maid asked her “will you give me the refrigerator too?”
Is my friend too generous?
People talk a lot about charity and helping. Sometimes I am also a part of such talks. But mostly they are not getting materialized and those talks remind me of below conversation:
Once a child asked a Pastor “What is charity?” The pastor thought of teaching the child by her own deeds,
And the conversation goes as below :
Pastor : “If you have 2 houses, will you give one of them to poor?”
Child : “Sure, I will give away one of the house”
Pastor : “If you have 2 cars, will you give one of them to someone who really need?”
Child : “ Oh yes, I will”
Pastor : “If you have 2 Barbie dolls, will you give one who doesn’t have a doll to play?”
Child : [ After thinking for while, said the kid ] “No I can’t”
Pastor was surprised and asked the child, : “Why is it so ?”
Child : “Coz’ I really have, 2 Barbie dolls.”
Sincere thought here is; what is real help, and what is the correct way to help?
At this juncture I read about this remarkable individual Mr. N. Krishnan, young chef who quit his job to help the mentally ill roadside destitute. Probably i got the direction.
In June,2002 Krishnan lost himself on seeing a very old mentally ill man eating his own excreta due to extreme hunger not knowing how to get food. Krishnan brought food and offered him. Blinding Gratitude in the man’s eyes after gulping the food changed Krishnan’s life for ever. You can get to know more about him by below link :

Something that I tried
When idle, i was trying to get something out of chalk pieces and...
took snaps of them before they got borken.
yep they are very delicate to handle,
soft and brittle seeking more attention.
